Unit 6.00: How Angry Am I? The Anger Thermometer

Image
A very helpful Conceptualization of Anger can be accomplished through the use of an "Anger  Thermometer".    Being Angry; versus Feeling Angry.   IF I "am" Angry then that might be misunderstood with the notion that I am an Angry person.  But nobody wants to be thought of as an Angry Person.   But if I say that I 'feel" angry, well that kind of breaks it down a little bit...   Makes me seem more human -- less threatening.     The APA says, we should "Control Our Anger before It Controls US."   " We all know what anger is, and we’ve all felt it: whether as a fleeting annoyance or as full-fledged rage. Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy, human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems—problems at work, in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your life. Anger can make you feel as though you’re at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion...

Unit 7.00: Responsibility and Denial in Anger Management

Image
Being Fully Responsible or Being In Denial -- Which Works Better for Me in Terms Of my Need To Better Manage My Anger?   Consider this Proposition: Denial can be like a Rattle Snake... It may be nearby... it may even rattle a little bit to try and remind me of its presence....  I might even hear it.  But if I am not real careful around it; I might get bit!    Question:  Can one Be Responsible and be in Denial at the same time?     Well, when it comes to a Anger-Related Offense this may be a possibility.  Surely, I could be in Denial about how dangerous my relationship is; while simultaneously I could feel Responsible for all of the problems in my relationship.     Nonetheless, when it comes to Anger Management Treatment, we are probably better off; the sooner we can FULL Responsibility for our part of the situation that created the need for us to have some Anger Management training.    And while doing so, ...

A bad thing happens to me... and that produces NEGATIVE Energy in my Life... What am I to do with that Negative Energy?  The feelings that I got now - - that somehow, someone got the best of me?  I want REVENGE!!!  Right??? On a rare occasion; trading licks with an opponent can come out good... but why???   What positive result could that actually produce?  So I best find an alternative to revenge...  Because revenge is a road to nowhere. But then there is that voice of reason coming into my Right Ear from that Angel sitting on my shoulder... and she's saying...  "Naw....  it ain't worth it...  Why?  Because two wrongs do not make a right." Besides, Exactly how could Negative Energy help me accomplish anything that a normal person would want to accomplish? Unit 9.00: How Have I Experienced the Cycle of Anger?

Image
According to one source and Anger Cycle can be defined as: "What is an anger cycle?   The arousal cycle of anger has five phases: trigger, escalation, crisis, recovery and depression. Understanding the cycle helps us to understand our own reactions and those of others. The trigger phase is when an event gets the anger cycle started. ... Take note of these things next time you feel angry”  ( Source: VIU, 2021 ).   Another take on the Anger Cycle could be as SAMSHA puts it: The Anger Cycle / Aggression Cycle is as follows: " An episode of anger can be viewed as consisting of three phases: buildup, explosion, and  aftermath. Together, these three phases make up the aggression cycle. The buildup phase  is characterized by cues that indicate anger is building. As you may recall, cues are warning signs, or responses, to anger-related events. If the buildup phase is allowed to continue, the explosion phase can follow. The explosion phase is marked by a disc...

Unit 9.50: Anger Management And Accountability

Image
What is Anger Management?      Anger Management is " Anger management is the process of learning to recognize signs that you're becoming angry, and taking action to calm down and deal with the situation in a productive way.  Anger management doesn't try to keep you from feeling anger or encourage you to hold it in.  Anger is a normal, healthy emotion when you know how to express it appropriately — anger management is about learning how to do this." "You may learn anger management skills on your own, using books or other resources.  But for many people, taking an anger management class or seeing a mental health professional is the most effective approach.
